Alex Garnett
hard bop post-bop soul jazz
Influences: Charlie Parker, Lou Donaldson, Hank Mobley
Alex Garnett is a tenor saxophonist whose hard bop sound combines the blues-drenched expressiveness of Lou Donaldson with early Coltrane intensity. In this special programme honouring the soul jazz legend, he and his trio tackle the bluesy, accessible approach that defined Lou's legacy while maintaining the rigorous musicianship of a player whose peers include Wynton Marsalis and members of the Rolling Stones.
